About the project

Burj Khalifa (Arabic: برج خليفة‎ — “Khalifa Tower”, until 2010 was called “Burj Dubai” — “Dubai Tower”) is a super-high skyscraper with a height of 828 meters in Dubai (UAE). It is the tallest and most multistory building, the tallest structure, the only 828-meter and 163-storey skyscraper in the world. The shape of the stepped building resembles a stalagmite.

The opening ceremony took place on January 4, 2010. The building was planned to open on September 9, 2009, at the same time as the Dubai Metro. The opening was postponed to January 2010 due to a reduction in funding from the developer.

The Dubai Tower was designed as a “city within a city” — with its lawns, boulevards, and parks. The total cost of the construction is $1.5 billion. The skyscraper was designed by the American architectural firm Skidmore, Owing and Merrill, which also designed the Willis Tower in Chicago, World Trade Center 1 in New York and many other famous buildings.

The author of the project is the American architect Adrian Smith, who already had experience in designing such structures (in particular, he participated in the design of the Jin Mao skyscraper in China, 420 m high). The construction division of the South Korean company Samsung, which previously participated in the construction of the Petronas Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur, was chosen as the general contractor for the development.

For the construction of this magnificent tower, our company supplied high-quality reinforcing material Technobasalt® Fiber, which was used to reinforce the interior cladding panels for the interior of this building.
